Abstract: Synthesis gas for the synthesis of methanol and higher alcohols has to meet specific requirements. For example a stoichiometric gas composition, a low content of methane and a high ratio of CO/CO$_{2}$, are desired. By calculations for the case of thermodynamic equilibrium the influence of CO$_{2}$ addition, of a following shift reaction and of hydrogen separation are studied.
